Biography

Anna Gschwend was born in Switzerland, and studied at the Zürcher Hochschule der Künste (ZHdK) in Zurich and the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London.

Roles performed include Anna (Die Lustigen Weiber von Windsor), Laura (Der Bettelstudent), Pamina (Die Zauberflöte), Zaide (Zaide), Annina (La Traviata), Esmeralda (Die Verkaufte Braut), Silvia (L’isola disabitata), Grilletta (Lo Speziale), Nanette (Der Wildschütz), Barbarina (Le nozze di Figaro), Eurydice (The Corridor).

She has been a frequent soloist with La Petite Bande, with performances of Christmas Oratorio and The St Matthew Passion, a multitude of Bach cantatas and Haydn operas; and has recorded Schütz and Christmas Cantatas (Bach, Buxtehude, Telemann) for them. Other concert repertoire includes Handel oratorios, Mozart Mass in C minor, Haydn Die Schöpfung and Brahms Requiem.

Anna also has a high profile in contemporary repertoire, and has given several Premières of pieces written specifically for her. She received the Tracey Chadwell Memorial Prize for her interpretation of contemporary music.
